Salpetris (no lat. sal- "sāls" + gr. petra - "klints"; an. saltpetre, vc. Salpeter, kr. селитра) - kālija nitrāts KNO3, viduslaiku beigās (kopš XIV gs. otrās puses) un jaunajos laikos melnā pulvera ražošanā nepieciešama izejviela. Ieguva no dabīgo atradņu neattīrītajiem sārmzemju vai sārmu metālu nitrātiem. Kopš XV gs. Viduseiropā to ieguva mākslīgi t.s. salpetra vārītavās.
