Galera (an. galley, vc. Galeere, fr. Galère, kr. галера) - airu karakuģis ar vienu airu rindu un 2-3 mastiem Vidusjūras baseinā VII-XVIII gs. Pamatā pārvietojās ar airu palīdzību, taisnstūra (t.s. latīņu) burām pildot palīgfunkcijas tikai ceļavēja gadījumā. Kuģa garums vidēji bija līdz 60 m, platums - vidēji 7-8 m, iegrime līdz 2m, 16-32 airi (līdz 15 m gari) katrā bortā. Airējot, varēja attīstīt ātrumu līdz 7 mezgleim. Apkalpe, ieskaitot karavīrus, līdz 450 cilvēku. Kā karakuģu tips parādījās Venēcijā VII gs. un bija virknes Rietumeiropas valstu Vidusjūras kara flotes bruņojumā līdz XVIII gs. Atlantijas okeānā gandrīz netika izmantotas, jo tajā valdošais vēju un viļņu tips neatbilda kuģa konstrukcijai, savukārt vējiem daudz mazāk paklautajā Vidusjūrā, biežajos bezvēja apstākļos šāds karakuģis ar izcilām manevrētspējām bija visai efektīvs. Jaunajos laikos alogotos airētājus pamazām nomainīja kriminālnoziedznieki, kuriem cietumsoda vietā piespriestais sods bija airēt. XVIII gs. galeras izmantoja arī Baltijas jūrā, Krievijas impērijas kara flotē.
