Kasta (no lat. castus - morāli tīrs; un no port. casta - ģints) - 1. antrop. Endogāma sociālā grupa, kam raksturīga morāles normu kopība un norogežošanās no citām grupām. 2. Saskaņā ar brahmanisma un hinduisma priekšstatiem par reliģisko tīrību, strikti nodalīts sociālais slānis senajā Indijas pussalas sabiedrībā.

Aptuveni I g.tk.p.m.ē., sabiedrības struktūrai sarežģoties, varnas sāka sadalīties sīkākās apakškategorijās, t.s. kastās, tās savukārt dalījās apakškastās, beigu beigās pastāvēja aptuveni 3000 kastu. Piederību pie kastas noteica indivīda sociālā un etniskā izcelsme.
Indijas pussalā kastu sistēma pastāvēja līdz visjaunākajiem laikiem, kad tā sāka sairt - 1950. gadā kastu iedalījums Indijā tika aizliegts ar likumu.
